HELP WANTED

DCGreeks.com seeks talented writers, photographers, game designers, researchers, and marketing interns

June 26, 2006

After almost five years of running DCGreeks.com as a two-man operation, we have come to realize (as many of you have as well) that we can’t be everywhere and can’t do everything. To make DCGreeks.com truly reflective and representative of the Greek young adults in DC, Baltimore, and beyond, we need to seek the help of others who can allow us to provide a richer, more encompassing view of everything Greek in these areas. We would also like to resurrect some of the things about DCGreeks.com that made it unique five years ago as well as expand the offerings to our viewers on this site, to make DCGreeks.com a place to visit on a daily basis for something new.

We are looking for enthusiastic, talented, and imaginative, Greek young adults from DC, Baltimore, and beyond to provide a small amount of their time to DCGreeks.com as writers, photographers, game designers, researchers, and marketing interns. We offer flexible hours, the ability to work from home (or abroad), the opportunity to increase your portfolio of work, a chance to expand your Greek-American network, and the experience of working with an overworked perfectionist and/or a brilliant but lazy dabbler. (Try to guess which one is which.) No experience necessary and we’ll train.

Writers

We are looking for writers, both as new columnists and as beat reporters. Columnists are needed to write on any number of subjects of interest to Greek young adults, and to provide opinions that quite frankly aren’t ours. Contributors to the Daily Gyro are especially welcome to help make it truly a “Daily” Gyro. Do you have a specific interest that you feel is missing from DCGreeks.com right now? (Music Reviews, Restaurant Reviews, etc.)

If column writing isn’t for you, we are in serious need for beat reporters for certain geographic areas (i.e. Baltimore) and for any of the events sponsored by various Hellenic organizations -- the Embassy, individual churches in the DC/Baltimore metropolitan area, local Hellenic Societies on campus (i.e., Georgetown University Hellenic Association, GWU Kosmos Club, University of Maryland) the regional Greek-associations (Pan-Cyprians, Cretan, Laconian, Macedonian, etc.) and others. There is something Greek-related occurring in the DC/Baltimore metropolitan area every week, particularly in the cultural and arts fields, so the possibilities to cover events is endless.

Photographers

Are you great at working a room of Greeks or would you like to become better at it? Need an excuse to meet more Greeks? There are openings for photographers at DCGreeks.com. Photographers are needed for the events we can’t make, for the nights when there is more than one event, for out of town events, and for huge events where just one photographer won’t do. No formatting experience necessary. Just take the pictures and we’ll do the rest.

Game Designers

Do you miss The Greekest Link? Did you enjoy the Sphinx’s Revenge? Do you have ideas for other games to help young Greek-Americans kill time at work? DCGreeks.com is looking for game designers to help us resurrect some of our older franchises and help create new ones. Computer design skills aren’t necessary as long as you’re willing to come up with the idea and update editions of the game.

Researchers

We can’t believe we’re even asking for this, considering how user friendly and interactive we made the Events Calendar, in its ability to allow anyone registered on DCGreeks.com to post a non-profit Greek event for free, but we know that every Greek event in the DC/Baltimore metropolitan area isn’t being posted on our calendar, and therefore there are many worthwhile Greek events that are going unsupported. We are looking for volunteers to keep an eye out for Greek events and post them on the calendar to help our writers and photographers attend more events.

Marketing Interns

We’re also looking for highly motivated self-starters for commission-based sales and marketing positions in DC and Baltimore metropolitan areas. This is a perfect position for those who are already well-connected in their local Greek community or for those who would like to expand their network. No experience necessary and we’ll train.

Apply today!

To apply for any of the positions listed above, or to offer to help DCGreeks.com in another way, please send an email to [email protected]. All inquiries will remain confidential.
