2006 New Year's Resolutions for DCGreeks.com

January 3, 2006

In years past we’ve brought you New Year’s Resolutions for the Greek Community at Large. This year we’ll just stick to New Year’s Resolutions for us here at DCGreeks.com. No promises that we’ll actually live up to them.

More Pictures… While we managed to bring you pictures of a great variety of people and places thanks to a busy summer and fall travel schedule, there were only 25 sets of pictures over the last year. That number too is deceptive when you look at photo intensive weekends like DC YAL Weekend and Clearwater. Scanning back over the last year it looks like nothing happened in January, April, July and August. There were certainly events where we were weary of whipping out the camera – random Greek nights with not that many Greeks, most events during the daytime, and Third Thursdays. (In fact we realize now that it’s been since December 2003 when we last took a picture at a Third Thursday, when it was at a bar called Finemondo, which translates from the Italian as “the edge of the world” or “the end of the world” which we hope isn’t what it takes for us to take another picture at Third Thursday.) So with that said, we resolve to try to take more pictures at more and different Greek events whenever possible which will hopefully encourage more people to attend these events the next time around.

More Content… We once thought that pictures, a constantly updated member directory and events calendar, would naturally give visitors to DCGreeks.com an excuse to check in daily. Well, it seems that like other sites out there we get lulls in people registering and particularly in updating their profiles. (Post some pictures, people. Please.) We’re getting around to making some changes to the Member Directory to encourage more of you to say more on it, post more pictures, and make it more of your own presence on DCGreeks.com that will attract others to spend more time reading the profiles and getting to know the members of this community. It’s time for us to start writing Features again. The Daily Gyro will continue this year hopefully on a frequent basis if not in a different format. (By the way, we’re always looking for more contributors, particularly in the writing department.) We’ll also try to bring back some of our classic Games and introduce others as well. We welcome any other ideas for what you would like to see on this site as well.

A Complete Site Overhaul… As we’re now into the 5th Calendar Year of DCGreeks.com’s existence, we’ve realized it’s time the site got a fresh coat of paint, some new windows, and a thorough cleaning. We know at times we’re bored with the look and feel of it and can only imagine that you must be as well.

More Fun… Finally, we realize that DCGreeks.com is nothing without the living, breathing Greek community in the DC/Baltimore area and elsewhere. We’ll be constantly looking for more ways to help inspired Greek-Americans bring other Greek-Americans together in the spirit of friendship and parea. We’ll be kicking off our 40 Before 40 2, 40 straight nights/days of random Greek and not as Greek events, on Wednesday, January 18, 2006, as a way to jump start the year and hopefully get more young Greek adults out and involved in the community.
