IOCC School Kit Making/Fundraiser
IOCC School Kit Fundraiser On December 6th, 2014 from 12 PM - 4 PM, please join the IOCC DC Metropolitan Committee at St. Sophia's Cathedral in Washington, DC to assemble school kits for needy children. Last year, we met and assembled hygiene kits, and it was a great success with over 500 kits assembled! Can you imagine going to school without a pencil or a notebook? Well, in most of the countries where IOCC works, there are children who do not have even these basic school supplies. Church World Service (CWS), a longtime partner of IOCC, makes it possible to send school kits to needy children through its CWS service kits program. By putting together a CWS service kit, you can give a less fortunate child the tools needed to do well in school. CWS will collect the kits at a warehouse facility, prepare them for shipment and work together with IOCC to make sure these kits reach these children when needed. ITEMS NEEDED: A 12" by 14" to 14" x 17" cotton or lightweight canvas bag with cloth handles (please, no reusable shopping bags or backpacks) and fill it with the following items: If you are interested and able to participate, please RSVP to Lena Skiouris, IOCC DC Metropolitan Committee Chair, with which of the above items you will be bringing. The goal is for each person participating to bring with them 10 of one of the above delineated items. As people respond she will keep a tally of what items are being provided and let the group know what items are needed. For example, if you would like to provide rulers, please provide them in increments of 10. IOCC will provide the boxes and transport the kits to the center in Baltimore. Also, it is lunch time, so a pot luck of course is in order! We could have a spread of pizza/snacks etc. Let Lena know if you would like to participate in this regard as well. Looking forward to December 6th and gathering together to amass kits for children in need!
