For those of you who follow DCGreeks.com, you
may have noticed that we haven’t updated the site in a while and even more
surprising that we weren’t at the National YAL Conference. After four and eight
long years respectively, The Guys @
DCGreeks.com went to Greece for three weeks
for the AHEPA Supreme Convention, a whirlwind Greek Island cruise on the Aegean
Sea, and a few days to visit virtually all our family that we still have over
there. While we won’t bore you with too many details about the AHEPA Convention,
we’d like to take a stab at offering a series on what we’ll miss and in some
cases won’t miss about Greece.
Outdoor Cinema
August 13, 2008
The concept of watching movies outdoors while featured here in the States from
time to time has been perfected in Greece. There’s something about watching a
movie outdoors even amongst the hustle and bustle of Athens that can take even
the most unwatchable film and make it into an interactive experience.
Asteria
Productions Issues Statement on Hatzigiannis Concert Cancellations
May 28, 2008
Dear Friends,
As many of you know the remaining cities on the Mixalis Hatzigiannis US & Canada Tour were
cancelled.
It is our obligation to the Greek/American community that has supported us through the past 10 years, to clarify a huge mix-up that has transpired. Mario Pappas of GreekChicago.com has confused the Greek/American community with the recent creation of Asteria Entertainment. (more)

AHI’s 33rd Anniversary Hellenic Heritage Achievement
and National Public Service Awards Dinner
vs.
AHEPA’s 38th Biennial Banquet
March 25, 2008
Rarely does a Greek man have the opportunity to wear a tux, and it’s almost never when he gets to do so twice in a month. Every two years however, AHEPA and the American Hellenic Institute both schedule their most formal of events for March in DC, as the AHEPA Biennial Banquet joins the “AHI Dinner” as perhaps the two classiest Greek events that many Greek-Americans will ever attend, at least that don’t involve the obligatory exchanging of goats. Getting Greek-American young adults to attend these events though is a challenge that has much to do with the price, format, and line up of each event. (more)
HELP WANTED
DCGreeks.com
seeks talented writers, photographers,
game designers, researchers, and marketing interns
June 26, 2006
After almost five years of running DCGreeks.com as a two-man operation, we
have come to realize (as many of you have as well) that we can’t be everywhere
and can’t do everything. To make DCGreeks.com truly reflective and
representative of the Greek young adults in DC, Baltimore, and beyond, we need
to seek the help of others who can allow us to provide a richer, more
encompassing view of everything Greek in these areas. We would also like to
resurrect some of the things about DCGreeks.com that
made it unique five years ago as
well as expand the offerings to our viewers on this site, to make DCGreeks.com a
place to visit on a daily basis for something new.
We are looking for enthusiastic, talented, and imaginative, Greek young
adults from DC, Baltimore, and beyond to provide a small amount of their time to
DCGreeks.com as writers, photographers, game designers, researchers, and
marketing interns. We offer flexible hours, the ability to work from home (or
abroad), the opportunity to increase your portfolio of work, a chance to expand
your Greek-American network, and the experience of working with an overworked
perfectionist and/or a brilliant but lazy dabbler. (Try to guess which one is
which.) No experience necessary and we’ll train. (more)

If you tried hitting the gym over the last three weeks, you may have noticed
how hard it was trying to find a treadmill or other piece of equipment. College
students with nothing better to do, along with young professionals and others
working through their New Year’s Resolutions probably had a lot to do with
that. January is an interesting month in that there’s a huge emphasis on
sports and fitness in this country, both by participants and spectators alike.
The DC Greek community is not immune to this either, as January is typically the
start of the Greek League basketball season, which invariably has to be worked
around the NFL Playoff Schedule. We were pleased to hear that the YAL Basketball
Tournament earlier this month organized by St. George YAL was successful in
attracting both men’s and women’s teams for a weekend of basketball and
fellowship. (more)
