November 3rd - 7th, 2011 in Washington, DC
November 9, 2011
Thank you to everyone who attended
Pan-Hellenism Weekend 2011! It was truly a pleasure to see so many new faces
this year joining our many longtime supporters and friends. Check back starting
today and in the days ahead for photos, a recap, shout-outs to those who made
the event possible, and more!
November 3, 2011
PHW 2011 starts tonight with our Welcome Happy Hour at the One
Washington Circle Hotel's Circle Bistro, and we've already got people already
registered from all over DC, MD, and VA, along with first-timers and past
attendees from AZ, CA, DE, GA, IL, IN, IA, KS, LA, MA, MI, MN, MO, NJ, NY, NC,
OH, OR, PA, and SC. We expect this list to grow as people continue to purchase
packages/tickets online in the next day and a half! E! In our continuing effort to expose our returning
out-of-town guests to new venues, our Sunday Farewell Greek Night is moving to
BARCODE, on 1101 17th St NW. Opened one year ago by the same folks who
brought you ultrabar, BARCODE features a single floor layout, spacious booths
and lounge area, and TVs for those who want to catch the 2nd half of Ravens vs.
Steelers on Sunday Night Football.
We've got great people, music, food, venues, and weather -- all the makings of a
fantastic weekend!
To accommodate those of you who are still looking for a way to
economically attend multiple events this weekend, we're now offering one final
set of discounts! Purchase our Classic Package for $75, and new
Friday-Saturday Night Packages or Saturday Night-Sunday Packages (both of which
don't include MezeMania) for $60 and $55 respectively. Each package saves you $10-$15 from walk-up prices!
All Packages can be purchased by using the
Pan-Hellenism Weekend Registration Form. Also, don't forget to designate
one of our participating cosponsors to receive credit for your registration,
making them eligible for donations from the event's proceeds to be used toward their own
future events and charities which they support.
If you're only coming to one event and a package doesn't make sense, you can
still use the
Pan-Hellenism Weekend Quick Ticket Purchase Form (which allows for
individual tickets to be purchased in bulk, perfect for those purchasing tickets
for a big parea) to get your tickets in advance and avoid having to pay cash at
the door!
Here are some more stats to give you an idea of what our expected turnout should
be:
-To Date Registrations are 28% above 2010's levels!
-To Date Prepurchased Saturday Night Attendance is 64% above 2010's levels!
-88.5% of Registered Attendees have purchase packages or individual tickets for Saturday's Late Night Bouzoukia, beating the
previous Saturday Night Purchase Rate record of 84.8% set in 2009!

Help Us Spread the Word!
Those of you on Facebook, take a few minutes to add yourself to the attending
list and invite your fellow Greek and Philhellene friends via the
Pan-Hellenism Weekend 2011 Facebook Event Page.
Due to changes made by Facebook over the last few months, it's become a lot
harder for event organizers to invite non-friends/fans and communicate with them
once a guest list gets above 500 people, so we need your help to add your
personal friends who aren't on the guest list yet (a lot of whom have come to
PHW in previous years), and ensure that they get their hotel rooms and
discounted packages before the deadline!
For full details including a schedule of events, registration packages, hotel information, list of cosponsoring organizations (and how to become one), and the latest up-to-date info, visit the DCGreeks.com Pan-Hellenism Weekend 2011 Page at: http://www.DCGreeks.com/PanHellenismWeekend

89th AHEPA Family Supreme Convention Recap
August 8, 2011
by Aristotelis Chronis | DCGreeks.com
 |
| AHEPA proves that lightning does indeed strike mutliple times as it hosted
the
sixth Supreme convention at Miami Beach's famous Fontainebleau Resort from July 18-24th, 2011, its first time back to Miami Beach since 2004.
(Themistocles Chronis | DCGreeks.com) |
It's been rare for an AHEPA Convention to live up to the hype, but this year's Convention at Miami Beach's infamous Fontainebleau Resort certainly managed to do just that. While every summer brings the promise of the AHEPA Convention that will reverse the trend of poorly attended conventions with little appeal to those Greek-American young professionals looking for the rare destination week or weekend (depending on how much time they can afford to take off during the middle of July), this year's Convention brought back that key demographic at least toward the end of the week for the promise of upscale after-hours events at some of Miami's hottest clubs amidst celebrity sightings that made most forget they were at a Greek event altogether, much less an AHEPA Convention.
Many of the Greek young adults who had come to town had no idea that an AHEPA Convention was taking place or what exactly an AHEPA Convention is. They certainly skipped the Convention events, and some even skipped the after-hours for runs at Liv, the club with the most celebrity appeal at the Fontainebleau. All they knew was that there were a bunch of Greeks staying at the Fontainebleau and that they were all hanging out in the pool, despite the fact that the actual ocean was 200 yards away. For most, their best story of the week came outside the backdrop of the AHEPA Convention with sightings of LeBron James, Manny Ramirez, Britney Spears, Neo, Sean May, and other athletes and celebrities.
