Zaytinya One of the most alluring new spaces in DC, ZAYTINYA, offers a feast for the senses in a classic yet modern setting. Turkish for olive oil, Zaytinya is a Mediterranean-inspired retreat from the same partners that brought you JALEO and CAFÉ ATLANTICO. This elegant restaurant and bar features a bold two-tier interior and a magnificent Mezze menu of Greek, Turkish and Lebanese delicacies. Take the opportunity to sample some of these sumptuous “little dishes,” while absorbing Zaytinya’s intoxicating atmosphere and Zaytinya’s spacious 52-seat bar (may extend to the 2nd level mezzanine). If you crave style, sophistication and good taste in your social outings, this place has your name all over it.

Published 10/31/2002 Washington has a new hit: Zaytinya opened Oct. 14 in the new Pepco building downtown, and the food and setting are extraordinary and delicious. The overture is a wire basket with hot, still-puffed pide, Turkey's answer to pita, and a plate of olive oil with dots of a pomegranate reduction.
Zaytinya — Turkish for olive oil — serves mezes, the eastern Mediterranean's answer to the tapas of Spain on the sea's western shore. Zaytinya's mezes pay homage to their origins in Greece, Turkey and Lebanon but have undergone expert reworking by executive chef and co-owner Jose Andres. Everyday mezes from these countries emerge triumphantly in a new style. For those of you unfamiliar with this effort, below is an explanation:
We've often heard young Greek-American professionals -
married and single - say that they would like the opportunity
to meet other Greek-Americans in the D.C. area in a
relaxed and informal setting.
We would like to invite you to join us on the third Thursday
of every month at a gathering to which all Greek-American
professionals in the Washington metro area are invited.
We pledge to you that:
There will be no cover charge, no RSVP's and no name tags.
There will be no group name, no board members and no mission statements.
This is simply an attempt to address a need we have heard many express:
to help young Greek-Americans in the area get together.
We hope to see you at a future Third Thursday.
