Speaker:
Mr. Haris Vittas
Former Alternate Executive Director of the
International Monetary Fund
The speaker will highlight recent developments in the Greek economy, focusing on the period since Greece’s entry into the euro area. Mr. Vittas will examine the extent to which Greece has taken advantage of the opportunities provided by the adoption of the common currency to accelerate its economic development and narrow the gap in living standards relative to its partners in the euro area. Mr.Vittas will also discuss the main challenges confronting the Greek economy at the present time and conclude with a brief assessment of its medium term prospects.
A brief period of questions and answers will follow the presentation.
Dr. George Georgiou, Professor and Chairman of the Department of Economics at Towson University, University System of Maryland will be the moderator for the ensuing discussion.
