KERAMEIKOS: Glimpses into Ancient Athens
Part of the series on Greek Architecture
By Dr. Astrid Lindenlauf
The presentation will provide insights into the urban landscape of ancient Athens by exploring some of its well-known monuments and archaeological sites. Kerameikos, a puzzling feature of the ancient cityscape, is presented in more detail. This civic space will be analyzed as well as the topography of commemoration and the ways in which Athenians constructed and lived in their city.
Dr. Astrid Lindenlauf studied classical archaeology, ancient history, and sociology in Frankfurt, Berlin, and Athens. She is currently working for the German Archaeological Institute in Athens and is a scholar at the Center for Hellenic Studies, Harvard University.
