Rigas Kappatos Presents the Poet Kostas Karyotakis
Poetry and Musical Evening
Presented by The Hellenic Society Prometheas

When: Saturday February 16, 2008
7:30 PM
Where: St. George Greek Orthodox Church
7701 Bradley Blvd
Bethesda, MD  20817

The Hellenic Society Prometheas

Invites You to a

Poetry and Musical Evening

Rigas Kappatos presents the poet Kostas Karyotakis

Rigas Kappatos , a poet and author in his own right, will present the life and poetry of Kostas Karyotakis and share some of his thoughts about this poet.

Greece is a country of poets, but alas time covers them with oblivion. Few escape this rule. One among these few is Kostas Karyotakis. The poetic strength of his verse keeps him untouched and alive eighty years after his death, remaining steadily among the first in the preference of Greek readers until today. Kostas Karyotakis made the choice to put an end to his life while he was young, without realizing the impact of his poetry on the generations of poets that followed. Four generations after his death, poets are still influenced by him with his poetry continuing to be an object of study and charm.

(The presentation will be in Greek)

Following Mr. Kappatos’ presentation we will listen to Karyotakis’ poems set to music. Light reception will follow.
