On Monday, September 8th, 2008 at 7:30 PM the Saint Katherine YAL will be hosting Deuteri Deutera, their monthly charitable and social event in the kitchen of the Meletis-Charuhas Center. After a record breaking year of sandwich-making, St. Katherine’s YAL is poised for another year of helping the homeless while having a good time as well. Our goal for this year is not simply to make more sandwiches, but to get more people involved in this truly worthwhile experience. Please make an effort to bring a new person to sandwich-making this Monday (or someone who hasn’t been to sandwich-making in a while). Please bring loaves of sandwich bread and packages of deli meats and cheeses in the right amounts to ensure that we do not have any leftovers of bread and meat. The ratio is 2 slices of meat per sandwich, or one slice of meat and one slice of cheese per sandwich. (A typical loaf has 20 slices, or 10 sandwiches, and a typical one pound package of bologna features 14 or 16 slices, but please consult your packaging for exact amounts.) Ideally, each participant should bring seven loaves of bread and ten packages of meat or a combination of five packages of meat and five packages of cheese; just remember the ratio of 7:10. The combined cost of the bread and meat/cheese should be about $20.00. If all this math is making your brain hurt, or you don't have time to go to the grocery store beforehand, or cannot attend this event but would like to make a cash contribution to this most worthy cause, please contact Aris Chronis at [email protected] or Helen Spanos at [email protected] by 5:00 P.M. that Monday night, and Aris or Helen will purchase the meat and bread on your behalf. As always, after sandwich making, we will all go to a local restaurant for dinner. We also want to welcome all new members to our YAL. We look forward to seeing you on Monday! May God bless you with His love and forever keep you in His grace.
