SAE USA Youth Network Professional Growth and Youth Mentorship Fair
SAE USA Youth Network and Hermes Expo International: Dear Fellow Hellene-Americans, SAE USA Youth Network is proud to announce its first Professional Growth and Youth Mentorship Fair to be held April 24-25, 2010, in Atlantic City, NJ. The objective of the Youth Mentorship Fair is to provide young Greek-Americans who are aspiring to meet the professional demands of the 21st century with a forum to connect, interface, and learn from seasoned Greek-American leaders from various fields including Business, Medicine, Law, Academia, and Engineering. The Youth Mentorship Fair will consist of specialized workshops and private one-on-one sessions where mentors from various fields can provide help and advice to youths seeking guidance. The event will be hosted in conjunction with the Hermes Expo International and the National Hellenic Student Association. Going on its 19th year, Hermes Expo is one of the foremost trade shows connecting the Greek-American and philhellenic community by facilitating trade relations, promoting investment and business, and fostering relationships and networking. The National Hellenic Student Association will also host its conference at Hermes Expo and will participate actively at the event. Parallel to Hermes International Expo, the GREEN Symposium will bring together distinguished members of the community to share an open dialogue on developments, successes, and innovative ideas. The Hellenic Medical Societies of New York and of Philadelphia will be hosting their Continuing Medical Education (CME) conference at the same time. This presents an ideal opportunity for Greek-American youth to access seasoned professionals from various fields of interest and engage in one-on-one contact. This occasion will allow youths to learn about career opportunities, prepare for an increasingly competitive job market, and share in the dynamic experiences of seasoned mentors. Ultimately, this will result in developing bonds between mentors and youth, seeking the broader goal of creating a robust professional network across our community. Elia Kazan's America, America at the AFI Silver Theatre
AMERICA, AMERICA "My name is Elia Kazan. I am a Greek by blood, a Turk by birth and an American because my uncle made a journey." Elia Kazan's rarely seen epic tribute to his immigrant origins is biblical in its simplicity, its fervor and its power. Recounting the odyssey of Kazan's uncle, Stavros Topouzoglou (first time actor Stathis Giallelis), from the Old World to the New, it's an ode to the wave of immigrants who, at the turn of the century, escaped oppression and poverty in Europe to find a new home on these shores. The film is anchored by brilliant performances, Haskell Wexler's evocative photography and an extraordinary climax--the arrival at Ellis Island. DIR/SCR/ PROD Elia Kazan, based on his book. US, 1963, b&w, 174 min. NOT RATED Saturday, April 24, 3:00; Sunday, April 25, 3:00 Actor Stathis Giallelis will appear at the 3:00 screening on April 24 for a post-screening discussion and Q&A moderated by film scholar Foster Hirsch.
