ST. THEODORE SPRING FESTIVAL CELEBRATES FAMILY TRADITIONS,

GREEK AND GREEK-AMERICAN CULTURE

St. Theodore Greek Orthodox Church will hold its annual spring festival May 15-16 from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and May 17 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Festival attendees will enjoy popular Greek food and drink like baklava, souvlaki and gyros, and try new favorites like loukoumades, pastitisio and frappe. There will be live music each night courtesy of the band Golden Flame. Youth groups from across the Baltimore-Washington region will perform traditional folk dances. Our family-friendly festival takes place rain or shine. Admission and parking are free and open to the public.

Free cultural events new to this year's festival include a Greek dance lesson May 15 and May 16 at 6 p.m. hosted by St. Theodore's youth dance troupe, and a demonstration of traditional Greek cooking May 17 at 1 p.m. Also screening indoors throughout the festival are interviews from St. Theodore's video storytelling project, which describe the meaningful cultural traditions and personal histories our families have passed down through generations.

About Philoxenia House

The Philoxenia House, located directly across the street from Saint Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Baltimore, MD opened its doors in 2002 when the need was recognized that sufficient affordable and comfortable housing was not available to those seeking medical consultation and treatment at Baltimore's renowned medical institutions.  It provides solace and fellowship to those seeking medical treatment and spiritual consolation. The Philoxenia House doors are open to all people, young and old, from around the world and since February 2, 2002 has housed over 61 families from every continent. The by-laws of the House determine that only guests under medical care can be housed along with one caretaker and minor siblings accompanying the guest. The duration of the stay is determined by the medical provider.
