Help support a team of professional firefighters and police officers from Greece
at the
Fairfax 2015 World Police & Fire Games taking place from
Friday June 26, 2015 to Sunday July 5, 2015. This biennial event
will bring over 12,000 professional police officers, firefighters, and other first
responders from nearly 80 countries to compete in 62 different sports at
54 venues all over Fairfax County, VA and the National Capital Region.
The Greek firefighters and police officers need our help in order to participate.
Unfortunately, with the Greek economic crisis, the Greek teams are unable to participate
without financial assistance; they estimate they need about $125,000 to have 50-75
athletes represent Greece in nine sports, five of which they have received medals
in previously, including basketball, where they won gold in both 2011 and in 2013
in Belfast. It would be a true pity if they can't compete. It would be phenomenal
to let the world see the Greek competitive spirit, burning like the Olympic flame,
and support Greece on the international stage especially now with the economic crisis,
while bolstering the morale of a nation! We are very optimistic that as a community,
we can be heroes ourselves and step forward together to help these first responder
athletes.
To that end, we here at DCGreeks.com have
joined more than a dozen companies, restaurants, media partners and Greek societies
to create and support
Helping Hellenic HEROes, an online charitable campaign has been started
with Cake Cause Marketing. As individuals, you can help support this effort
by simply visiting the site and clicking on the links of our fellow sponsors.
If you're a company interested in joining the cause, please contact Dianne Katsakis
Quebral at [email protected] to pledge
your sponsorship, either through financial with monetary donation or perhaps in-kind
or pro bono support. Your companys donation will be listed along with the donation
amount on the Cake Cause Marketing crowd funding platform. All funds raised will
support the athletes expenses for travel, transportation, lodging and meals. Any
excess funds will be donated back to support the purchase of new public safety equipment
for Greek first responders. This is truly an underdog story, but with the power
and strength of the Greek-American diaspora, we can soon make this a Hellenic victory
with a happy ending!
