This exceptional event is devoted to the pioneer Cretan composers lived in 19th and 20th century whose work influenced the evolution of music in Greece. Music that started as traditional Cretan will be presented in its original and contemporary form. Composers such as Xylouris, Mountakis, Skordalos, Koutsourelis (influenced Zorba), will be covered in the first part of the event.
The second Part of the program is filled with legendary compositions of Yiannis Markopoulos, Stavros Xarchakos and others, interpreted by Charalambos Garganourakis and Dimitris Skoulas.
Charalambos Garganourakis, a critically acclaimed Cretan musician singer and composer will be accompanied by Dimitris Skoulas, Nikos Karavirakis and orchestra. The program includes giant screen presentation with a brief biographical information of the pioneer composers and mini video clips of Greece. The production care of the presentation is done by the distinguished Greek journalist George Vitoros.
Additionally, Cretan Dances will be performed by the exemplary troupes of the Pancretan Youth of America (PYA).
The concert will be held at the University of Maryland at College Park
and at the state of the art "Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center"

Proceeds of the tickets will be allocated to the PAA's Philanthropic Fund.
