Who was Pythagoras? Professor Christiane L. Joost-Gaugier, internationally known scholar, will answer this question in discussing her ground-breaking new book which shows that Pythagoras has been forgotten and misunderstood in our times. A book of this magnitude on Pythagoras and the impact of his thought has never been done. This book reveals the importance of the famous Greek wise man not only for the sciences in general, but also for the arts and architecture. It also discusses his persecution and his enormous influence on the history of culture -- including his political activism, religious beliefs, and his interest in animals and vegetarianism.
Author: Dr. Joost-Gaugier holds, A.B., A.M., and Ph.D. degrees from Harvard University. The recipient of numerous grants and awards, she has published extensively in the areas of intellectual history and art history and has lectured widely at the international level.
In 2005 she was awarded an honorary Phi Beta Kappa from Harvard University for her lifetime achievement as a scholar, including for her learned study of Pythagoras. Her expertise in intellectual history and art history has led her to discover the enormous importance of Pythagoras on the development of the arts and sciences and his continuing influence for the modern world.
