St. George/AHEPA Bone Marrow Registry
Do you know about the AHEPA Bone Marrow Registry? Would you like to save a life, without costing anthing? Dear Family and Friends: A small blood sample (or mouth swab) will tell if you can save a life. Prof. Zachary Stoumbos is desperately searching for a bone marrow donor. Zack was recently diagnosed with pre-cell B Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia. If left untreated, it can be fatal within 3-4 months. We can help Zack and others by getting screened to find a match or by providing a tax-deductible donation made payable to the AHEPA Bone Marrow Donor Registry. (Please mail your donation to Philoptochos of Saint George) The Ladies Philoptochos Society of The Greek Orthodox Church of Saint George together with AHEPA Bone Marrow Donor Registry will hold a Bone Marrow Screening Sunday, June 4th 11:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Presbytera Maria Grand Hall Please come to be tested! The phlebotomist will draw a sample of blood or a mouth swab (nothing to eat or drink for one hour before a swab – not even water) to be typed as a potential bone marrow donor. The data from the testing is kept in a database that is searched constantly to determine compatibility for marrow or stem cell transplants for leukemia victims. Requirements: You must be between the ages of 18-59 of any ethnic background. Pre-registrations will be accepted. There is no fee to be tested, but any donations would be appreciated to help defray the costs.
