To all members and friends of the Saint Katherine YAL:

 

Our monthly charity and social event, Deuteri Deutera, will take place this Monday, December 11th, in the kitchen of the new Cultural Center starting at 7:30pm.

 

Over the past 11 months, the YAL has made 8,375 sandwiches for the homeless and has donated these sandwiches to the Bailey's Crossroads Community Shelter for Men and Women in Falls Church.  A very big thank you to all of you who have come to help us over the past year.

 

Our goal is to donate 10,000 sandwiches to the homeless in 2006.  We are so close  but we aren't finished yet.  We need your help!  If you haven't joined us in the past few months (but have been meaning to come), now is your chance!  Please bring 8 loaves of sandwich bread and 5-8 packages of deli meats and cheeses per person. (So, if you decide to come on Monday with your friends, please have each of your friends bring 8 loaves of bread and 5-8 packages of deli meats and cheeses.)

 

We have found that Shoppers' Food Warehouse has the best prices in the area.  The total cost of the bread, meat and cheese comes out to roughly $20.00 per person.  This is a small donation to help the many homeless men and women in our community.  Every month that we bring the sandwiches to the shelter, the number of homeless people in the shelter grows.  In the winter months many nights are standing-room only at the shelter, especially as the temperarture drops.

 

After sandwich-making, the YAL will go out as a group for dinner and parea.  Every month we select a different restaurant.  We typically have about 20 people come each month to this social and charitable event.  It is a great way to see old friends and meet new ones.

 

All members and friends of the Saint George YAL and the Saint Sophia YAL are cordially invited to join us.  All members of the George Mason University OCF (Orthodox Christian Fellowship), the GWU Kosmos Club, and all Greek student organizations at all local colleges and universities in the area are welcome to join us.

If you are planning to come but don't have time to go to the grocery store, please contact Dean or Aris and let them know how much you would like to donate and they will go to the grocery store and purchase the food supplies on your behalf.
