Elvis' Last Song

VASSILIS RAISIS
Greece, 2009, 100 minutes, Color, film's website

Markos's life takes a radical turn in a coffee shop when he picks up an essay entitled "Melancholia in Rock 'n' Roll" left behind by Electra, a student of music history. Markos pursues Electra and, when they meet, it is music that brings them together. Markos’ friends dismiss her as "emo." Electra dismisses Markos' friends as superficial. The argument as to how seriously or lightly one should take life soon becomes an issue between the lovers, creating a gap that grows larger by the day. Eventually, it is music that will give rise to their final clash. Elvis’ Last Song took home both the Audience Award and Best Digital Film Award at the Thessaloniki International Film Festival. —Thessaloniki International Film Festival
