Shortcut to Europe: EU Embassies' Open House Events at the Greek Embassy

On May 7, 2011, the Delegation of the European Union to the United States and the Embassies of the 27 EU Member States to the United States will open their doors to the Washington public during the EU Open House Day. This fifth annual event will also kick off Europe Week throughout the United States.

On Saturday, May 7, 2011 the EU Delegation and each Embassy will be open to the public from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m., offering a rare look inside the buildings and providing a unique opportunity to experience the country's cultural heritage and national traditions. Free shuttle bus service will be provided throughout the day with stops at embassies and select Metro stations.

From Marathon to Special Olympics

Come to celebrate with us 2500 years of Greek culture from Marathon to the Special Olympics World Summer Games, Athens 2011. Dance with the music of Zorba the Greek and indulge your palates in traditional, healthy delicacies. Travel with us to the wonderful Greek islands and not only, with beautiful movies, informational materials and raffle prizes.

Special Olympics Photography Exhibit

As Greece prepares to welcome the world’s largest sporting event in 2011, Special Olympics World Summer Games, get inspired by 20 years of Special Olympics images by photographer Richard Corman. This remarkable display of photographs featuring individuals with intellectual disabilities, captures the emotion and the excitement of Special Olympics and will encourage the world to unite in Athens, Greece in June 2011.

Unique Cultural Experience

Entertainment at the Embassy of Greece will include traditional music and dances. There will also be featured documentaries by Mecano Film Productions on Plaka, the historical area of Athens at the foothills of the Acropolis and on the islands of Kastelorizo, Samos, Ikaria and Fournoi.

Local Greek restaurants will provide delicious samples of nutritious Greek dishes right from their menus.
