The Hellenic Society Prometheas & The Pancyprians of Metropolitan Washington Wish you HAPPY NEW YEAR 2012 and invite you toAn Evening Dedicated to the Island of Love: Cyprus-ΚΥΠΡΟΣ "The Greeks were always to remain conscious of her relationship to the east, and … an island of wonder on her account (Aphrodite), divine Cyprus lay, like the often insane impact and effects of love, just beyond the horizons of normality, and island of desire," from Geoffrey Grigson, The Goddess of Love, Stein and Day Publishers, NY 1977 Στην Κύπρο την αέρινη τη μακάρια γή η αγνή ψυχή δεν έσβησε και ζή και ζή και ζή! The program will include: A presentation of a 45 minutes long National Geographic film "Islands: CYPRUS", its beauty, history and Greek Turkish conflict and efforts of reconciliation. Recitation of poems of Vassilis Michaelides, Dimitris Libertis …Cypriot songs and/or dances. The evening’s program will be in English and Greek. Reception will follow with traditional Cypriot mezedes, krassaki and refreshments and the cutting of the Pancyprian’s Vassilopitta. The lucky winner obliged to learn/say in Cypriot Greek a few works, such as: "ελάλησεν ο πετεινός τσιε οι όρνιθες εξεσπαστίκασιν…."
