Greece finally has a plan for the Olympic venues, which surprisingly does not
involve selling them. Highlights include turning the former gymnastics hall
into a cultural performance center, adding hotel rooms to the Agios Kosmas
Olympics sailing center, and adding a golf course to the Markopoulo Olympic
equestrian center. Oh that’s brilliant. Take one of the most elitist and
expensive sports in the world that most Greeks can’t afford and replace it with
a slightly less elitist and expensive sport.

Coca-Cola Hellenic Bottling Co. and Coca-Cola Inc. have teamed to buy Multon, a
Russian juice maker. The Greek company is already the third largest Coke
bottler in the world, but has plans to expand into non-carbonated beverages. In
an unrelated story, reports before Greece’s parliament show that a single Greek
firm is responsible for producing 1.4 million boxes of anabolic steroids for
export a year. Which begs the question, does Greece need to be making any more
juice?

Set your DVRs for the Food Network this Sunday night at 10:00 when the first
ever woman chef is featured on Iron Chef America, who just happens to be a
Greek-American. Cat Cora, from Mississippi took her family’s Greek diner
pedigree as a start, added some formal training, and has gone on to work in New
York and California. The secret ingredient for the evening will be the patata.
We just hope she’s able to do a little more with it than “sto fourno.”

On Sunday, Baltimore’s Greektown will host its 10th Greek
Independence Day Parade. It will mark the first time that both of The Guys @ DCGreeks.com
will be at the Parade or in Greektown for that matter at the same time. If
you’re at the Parade between the hours of 2:00 and 3:00, look for us, say
hello, and get on the DCGreeks.com
camera during daylight hours.
