The Daily Gyro
Updated Daily on Greek Time

August 29, 2005

  • One of the signs that the summer is almost over has been the start of the US Open tennis tournament which starts today in New York. Tonight at 7:00 P.M. on USA Network will be one of the rare opportunities to see a Greek tennis player on national TV, as Eleni Daniilidou takes on #1 seed Maria Sharapova in her first match since losing her spot as the World’s top ranked player over the weekend. Andre Agassi, long time rival of the only reason we used to watch the US Open (Pete Sampras) plays his first match immediately following the Sharapova-Daniilidou match.

  • While we’re still waiting on final details from Raleigh on the Greek Night that will be held on their Festival weekend (September 16th-18th), we can report news that there could still be a block of discounted hotel rooms for the Opa Las Vegas event (September 22nd-26th)at the Monte Carlo Resort & Casino across the street from the Aladdin. (Call 1-800-311-8999 today and ask for the XOPALV Discount Code.) Speed Dating has also been added to the event schedule at 5:30 P.M. on the Saturday of the trip.

  • And remember, that you only have until Wednesday to register to win a free registration for YAL DC Weekend in November. So far the out-of-towners have jumped on the early registration rate.
