The
Daily Gyro August 27, 2008 2008 Democratic National Convention – Greek-American Viewing Guide Archbishop Demetrios Addresses Democratic National Convention Tonight With DC in our title, politics is supposedly in our wheelhouse, particularly when Greek-Americans are involved. We are years removed from the days when a party’s National Convention would dominate the airwaves for all of primetime for the entire week, and thankfully the Internet can provide essentially on-demand access to highlights, particularly those that will be occurring when most of us will be at work and not watching CNN. MoMonday marked the start of the Democratic National Convention in Denver. A bigger deal than usual is being made of the fact that a host of religious leaders from several faiths will be addressing the Democratic National Convention. Archbishop Demetrios is scheduled to give the Invocation on Wednesday night, which isn’t new for him as he’s addressed both the Democratic and Republican Conventions in the past. far as Greek-American politicians go, the highlight might have been on Monday night as Illinois State Treasurer Alexi Giannoulis addressed the Convention sometime before 7:30 Eastern Time during a series of Illinois state officials praising Obama. To check out his speech visit: http://www.demconvention.com/alexi-giannoulis. He pays his respects to his Greek heritage and the village where his parents got their start. As it’s unlikely that the Archbishop’s remarks will be picked up live by any of the TV coverage, the best way to catch these highlights will be through the internet. DemConvention.com has a built-in live viewer with the ability to dial up coverage of speakers that went on earlier in the day or week. We’ll be following the Democratic Convention for any Greek-American speakers should any more arise this week. Other Servings of The Daily Gyro
